YowYez aka (James) Etsuo Hagami was born in Okayama, Japan. He moved to Tokyo after graduating from Okayama Sozan Hi-school. In September 1970 he came to study graphic design in US. He attended the Dayton Art Institute till his scholarship was ended.
He moved to California with his first wife in ’57 Chevy Station wagon from Dayton, Ohio. He started his own work shop in South San Francisco while doing other jobs like tour coordinator for the Japanese tourist, and display manager for the Brooks Camera stores in the Bay Area, and the stock broker for Nomura Security International in S.F.
To concentrate on art work, he move to Laytonville from the studio in South City, this time with his new wife Sonoko. He moved into 10 acres in town of Laytonville about 150 miles north of San Francisco.
30 years ago, he had his first art exhibit in North Beach, San Francisco that’s in 1984. In 1995 at the Mendocino County Museum in Willits, he and his wife Sonoko exhibited their art works. They had many successful exhibits in Japan also.
